Luke Doucet and Melissa McClelland, the husband and wife duo known as Whitehorse, will perform in support of their sophomore album The Fate of The World Depends on This Kiss and their recent EP The Road To Massey Hall at The Rock House in St. John's on Thursday, June 13 and at The Marquee Ballroom in Halifax on Friday, June 14.
Released in the summer of 2012 on Six Shooter Records, The Fate of the World Depends on This Kiss is everything the talented pair’s first full length promised. As a whole, the album reveals the range of creative possibility that only expands as Whitehorse develops and focuses their sound. Song by song, the record takes surprising turns; while each track confidently bears Whitehorse’s signature blistering guitar work and love-knotted vocals, their willingness to take risks and ability to pull them off makes for captivating listening.
The Road to Massey Hall EP was released in February 2013 and is a compilation of covers celebrating the venue's history and a tribute to those legends that have made the iconic stage their own. The six songs include tributes to Neil Young, Blue Rodeo, Gordon Lightfoot, Bob Dylan, Ron Sexsmith and Traditional. Watch Whitehorse perform “Un Canadien Errant” at: youtu.be/JIjoByUJbPQ
Whitehorse’s live show is built on mesmerizing guitar work and smoldering vocal chemistry, but also brings much more to the stage with complex layers of percussion, keyboard and telephone receiver amplification, tangled like an embrace with the help of looping pedals. Their sold out Winter Garden Theatre show in February 2012 and March 2013 performance at the legendary Massey Hall in Toronto signalled their unquestionable arrival as a band.
