From the Promoter
The Montreal folk quintet Mentana has been churning out honest, gutsy Canadiana for a few years.
Recently nominated for best Folk Album of the Year at the Gala alternatif de la musique indépendante du Québec (GAMIQ), Mentana has also become known for their work on film scores, including for director Rafaël Ouellet’s Camion, from which they won a Jutra for best soundtrack.
In spring 2016, Mentana launched a debut album, Inland Desire—a record about exodus, travel, uprooting. The songs track the east-to-west black-gold rush, sing of dreams that might have been, and evoke how we try to forget the roots that trail behind us. After extensive performances across Quebec, in Ontario and in the Maritimes, after topping the German iTunes folk charts, and after a month-long tour in Italy, Mentana has returned to Montreal for a last hometown hurrah before heading back into the studio to record a second album. This show will feature special guests, and the band will perform songs from Inland Desire as well as from the upcoming album.
