YES WE MYSTIC
Yes We Mystic is a new band from Winnipeg, Canada, bursting with an honest, inspired energy. Influenced by traditional folk and contemporary indie rock, the five members create something fresh, something that can mellow and groove, but can climb in an instant to towering, frenzied heights. Sweet harmonies, delicate mandolin lines, and melodic strings are offset by distant guitars, complex rhythms, and powerful bass synthesizers. The band is a fickle animal, led by front men Adam Fuhr and Keegan Steele, capable of both quiet acoustic melodies and soaring, triumphant crescendos.
Their debut EP Floods and Fires was released in 2013 on Head in the Sand records. The five song cycle deals with the theme of loss, and yet there is something uplifting here; these songs refuse to get bogged down in joylessness. Rather they extol the strength that comes from sadness.
Floods and Fires was produced, recorded and mixed in 2013 by Head In The Sand's Michael P Falk. He was so enamoured with the young band's musicianship that he asked them to join his label. He mused: "Its a good sign when the guy who has already heard these songs thousands of times wants to keep listening to them".
These young faces are no stranger to the stage. Front man Adam Fuhr and drummer Jordon Ottenson have toured the globe with Falk in his cavernous indie-rock band Les Jupes; Cellist Jodi Plenert also performs with indie pop weirdos Boats. Solana Johannson, a classically trained violinist, plays intermittently with J.P. Hoe. Yes We Mystic themselves have enjoyed ever-growing success in their hometown, hitting the top spot on local campus radio charts and headlining a sold out show at this year's Big Fun Festival.
