From the Promoter

Chris Taylor didn’t have to start a record label. He already had one of the most successful Entertainment Law Firms in the country representing Drake, Nelly Furtado and dozens of other Canadian musicians. He started Last Gang Records because he was at that spot in the road where passion meets frustration. He’d been working with an indie band from Toronto called Metric, and they weren’t having any luck getting a record deal. So he and partner, Donald Tarlton, started a label and put out Old World Underground, Where Are You Now? in May 2004. That’s how Last Gang Records started.

From there they signed Death From Above 1979, MSTRKRFT, Crystal Castles and Mother Mother, and licensed other great albums with bands like Chromeo, Boys Noize, The New Pornographers, Tiga and now Huratron, Electric Youth, Bear Mountain, Tre Mission, Leisure Cruise and Ryan Hemsworth.

In 2014 alone, Death From Above 1979, Chromeo and The New Pornographers will all release new albums with this great little record label that has grown into a cultural and dynamic force on a local and global scale.

Last Gang Records will celebrate their ten year anniversary with a night at The Guvernment (132 Queens Quay East, Toronto) on May 22nd that will feature dj sets by legendary Last Gang acts MSTRKRFT as well as Ethan Kath (of Crystal Castles), Purity Ring, Huoratron, Electric Youth, Bear Mountain, Rush Midnight, Tre Mission, Kay, Leisure Cruise, Dubmatix, Young Guv, Bizzarh and more special guests to be announced. Tickets are $25 - on sale this Friday. Proceeds from the evening will benefit the Friends Of Music Therapy program at Sick Kids Hospital as well as Dixon Hall Music School.

“We haven’t always trumpeted our achievements that loudly. Historically, we’ve let our bands’ music do the talking but on May 22 we are going make a bit of noise,” says, Last Gang founder, Chris Taylor.
