From the Promoter

Daniel Champagne has already appeared twice before in Toronto, and recently won major applause (and impressive CD sales) at Guelph's prestigious Hillside Festival. At 18 he left school, turned professional and hit the road — and in the next five years he toured Canada and the United States, the U.K., Europe, New Zealand and homeland Australia. He's played major festivals, including Vancouver and Mariposa (Canada), Belgium’s Labadoux Festival and Australia’s Woodford, Falls Festival, Port Fairy Folk Festival and the legendary Byron Bay Bluesfest. As well as touring and sharing stages with artists including Lucinda Williams, Judy Collins, INXS, John Butler, KT Tunstall and Ani DiFranco, he's written, produced and independently released two EPs and two full albums. He's now planning to relocate to the U.S. later this year, using Nashville as his base.
The Perch Creek Family Jug Band comes to the Horseshoe after June, July and August dates in Holland, Denmark and the U.K. The family's a band of five energetic multi-instrumentalists and vocalists, four of them siblings. Their latest material introduces the world to a sound the group calls “psychedelic jug band” — "steam-powered roots music plugged into 3,000 volts of inner city creative energy and a fearless spirit that sparkles with imagination and individuality." Together, one adds, with a healthy respect for the music of the original jug band era.
Band members are Christi Hodgkins (harmonica, trombone, saw, vocals). Lear Hodgkins (drums, washboard, jug, vocals), Eileen Hodgkins (banjo, guitar, tap dancing, vocals), Camilla Hodgkins (banjo, keys, vocals) and James Chandler (double bass, vocals)

Inspired by the likes of Andrew Bird, Django Reinhardt and folk music from around the planet, The Bearded Gypsy Band play an eclectic mix of tearaway original tunes with Celtic, jazz, blues and gypsy influences. They play with a musical authority and clarity seemingly beyond their years. The four piece band, making their Canadian club debut, were recently chosen South Australia's Best Roots Act at the Fowler's Live Music Awards.
