From the Promoter

Fergus Hambleton~is a versatile singer, songwriter, composer and multi-instrumentalist, who, during his lengthy career, has been a leading performer and songwriter in the folk, pop and reggae fields, most notably in the Juno award winning reggae band The Sattalites.
Fergus began playing music in the ‘60s in a variety of bands. The rock scene in Toronto was hot and one of the bands Fergus played in, A Passing Fancy, was one Yorkville’s most popular new acts. After some travelling and writing Fergus signed a deal with Capitol Records Canada and released two albums in a folk rock style, produced by his brother Greg Hambleton.
In the 1970s Fergus began doing sessions as a sax player with the expanding Jamaican community in Toronto. A stint as a guitarist in Leroy Sibbles band and countless sessions led to a meeting with the legendary Jamaican musician Jo Jo Bennett. They began a now 35 year musical partnership, that has earned them a unique place in Canada’s rich musical tapestry as the core of the popular reggae band The Sattalites. The band has gone on to have a long musical career peppered with numerous high-profile concert events, six albums, two Juno Awards and a host of national and international awards and accolades.
Widely known for his captivating baritone, Fergus honed his singing style while studying with the noted Canadian voice teacher Charles Jordan, who shared Fergus’ love of traditional folk music. Fergus went on to study composition with one of Canada’s most celebrated composers, San Dolin. Dolin’s tutelage helped Fergus add to his already substantial songwriting expertise, which he now brings to his many producing and teaching roles.
In September 2013The Sattalites released “Sattalites-The Best Of Canadian Reggae” a greatest hits package on Solid Gold Records.
Currently Fergus is preparing for the release “Written On The Wind”,a brand new album of 10 new original songs.Produced by George Koller the album is due to be released ~March 31,2015.
Upcoming live performances for Fergus include regular appearances with The Sattalites at the Orbit Room in Toronto — Byrds, Byrds, Byrds — a tribute to the songs of the Byrds, The Tuesday Night Club, and a number of other groups including his own jazz ensemble The Jazz Lovers Society, whose performances are dedicated to the swing era and classic jazz standards.
At his Hugh’s Room show on Saturday, March 28, Fergus will be backed up by his band, Davide Di Renzo, George Koller, and Tim Bovaconti on guitar.
