“An unflinching social eye” The Observer

“One of our most lyrically striking, and significant, artists” The List

Sometimes the smallest and most particular of stories speak to the most powerful of human emotions and experiences.

And so it is with Karine Polwart’s songs, peopled as they are with the ghosts of childhood adventures, elderly neighbours, eroding shorelines and motherly love.
Her talent for crafting enduring melodies, her gift for saying just enough without overstating her case, the range and dynamism of her arrangements, have established her as one of the foremost songwriters on the Scottish and UK folk scenes.

She is a much sought after collaborator, working in recent years with artists such as Lau and Greek-Cypriot composer Alkinoos Ioannidis. She is also an esteemed Scots traditional singer and interpreter of the songs of Robert Burns, and a former member of trad groups Malinky and the Battlefield Band.

Four times winner at The BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, including twice for Best Original Song, her 2012 album Traces was picked as Album of The Year by both The Herald and The Guardian and was shortlisted for Scottish Album of the Year Award across all genres.
