Peter Elkas Band
with Dani Nash
From the Promoter
Unlike some desperate trend chasers, from his days in the legendary indie-rock Canadian cult band Local Rabbits, Elkas has always known his voice and trusted who he really is—a witty, romantic, old school soul rocker. Maybe that’s why he can hang out with Springsteen in New Jersey or collaborate with people like Charlie Sexton and Joel Plaskett or open shows for the Boss, Nick Lowe, and the Doobie Brothers (at Massey Hall, no less). Blood brothers know their own.
Lion is the digital only introductory section of a planned full-length (Lion Lion; coming fall 2018), and was produced by Elkas at his home studio, Magnum’s Guesthouse. In terms of the Elkas-ography, here the tempo, pitch, and volume are up with a new-wave feel in spots, soul-rock in others, but ultimately reference points give way to carefully crafted songs about strained adult relationships, their foundations, and the inevitability of loss. And wicked solos too.
The spirited EP features Elkas on guitars, keys, and vocals, Jeff Heisholt (Trews, Terra Lightfoot, Skydiggers) on keys and vocals Gavin Maguire (Trews) on drums and vocals, and Jeremy Little (Jason Collett) on bass. Special guests include Joseph Shabason (War On Drugs, Destroyer, DIANA) on saxophone and Tom Moffett (Arkells) on trumpet.
