DUNN/HAAS
Matthew "Doc" Dunn (The Cosmic Range, MV+EE) and Andy Haas (John Zorn, Martha & The Muffins) celebrate the release of their new duo LP "KIM". Both veterans of the avant-garde & improvised music worlds, Dunn drops junkyard percussion amidst Haas' free form sax squalls. Doc later adds radiant organ avant-vamps to Andy's stacked horn textures. A humble dialog between percussion & sax becomes a spiritual jazz influenced burner. The duo weaves a seamless language where effected horn lines quiver over haunting cymbal rattles. Frantic notes build voluptuous structures wily enough to raise the sprits. For fans of Don Cherry, Art Ensemble Of Chicago, etc.

ROUGHHOUSING (springgardenmusic.com/Roughhousing.htm)
Philly free improv trio of saxophonist Jack Wright, double bassist Evan Lipson (Normal Love, Satanized) & guitarist Zach Darrup speak in an angular yet reserved language. Bass creaks create a foundation for saxophone pops & guitar notes that bounce like rain drops. The trio sounds like an old house settling after a wind storm. Rambunctious moments emerge as guitar notes wrap themselves around bubbling sax lines and opposing bass bows. Dynamic in nature, haunting miniature drones and whispered tones balance out their past fits.

JUNCTQIN (junctqin.com)
Toronto based keyboard ensemble junctQín consisting of pianists Elaine Lau, Joseph Ferretti, and Stephanie Chua push the constructs of new music through a focus on living composers contemporary keyboard music. Often presenting compositions that pair grand piano with toy keyboards, electronics, and other non traditional noise makers, the trio lives in space where the contemporary classical meets the avant-garde.
