NYC sax player Chris Pitsiokos brings his avant jazz free wheeling quartet CP Unit to Toronto in support of their newest recording "One Foot On The Ground Smoking Mirror Shakedown". CP Unit features Sam Lisabeth (Guerilla Toss) on guitar, Henry Fraser (Ryan Power, Brandon Seabrook) on bass, Jason Nazary (Little Women, Bear In Heaven) on drums & electronics, and of course Pitsiokos on sax. This NYC power house of next gen weirdos blends languid free form jazz idioms with tickling guitar notes and talkative angular sax lines. At times feeling more like a renegade punk band CP Unit dives through jabbing notation into squalls of sax & guitar textures that drip out over a driving rhythm section. Part face rip unit, part methodical meanderers, CP Unit balances the chaos energy.

Toronto no wave freaks bust angular guitar & bass jabs over funk infused rhythms that squirm and shake. Bouncing bass lines & speedy drum patterns pull you in, as Luge seamlessly morphs from a languid stroll into chaotic spazz punk fury. Absurdist vocals wander amongst mangled guitar notes. Their locked in rhythms section spits out bastard funk grooves sound like they are straight out of late 1970's NYC.
