Ottawa Jazz Festival: Joss Stone
From the Promoter
TekSavvy Main Stage at 8:30 pm
Joss Stone has an irresistible groan, a catch in her throat that lends bluesy vulnerability to the self-confidence in her fully open voice. Utterly British—she was Anne of Cleves in The Tudors on TV—and just 30 as of April, she sings with the worldly aches and glories of her twin influences, Dusty Springfield and Aretha Franklin. The Soul Sessions, Stone’s 2003 debut, sold multi-platinum, as did her follow-up, Mind Body & Soul. Ever since she’s aggressively regenerated the art of belting and wheedling a melody, surpassing competition and collaborating with the likes of Mick Jagger, Ricky Martin, Common, Lauryn Hill and Herbie Hancock. Fun facts: she is among the UK’s richest citizens. She's been voted World’s Sexiest Vegetarian. She wants to raise global awareness of hearing loss. Since 2014, Stone been touring non-stop, trying to get to of every country on earth.
